Oxidation Kinetics of Methane and Methane/Methanol Mixtures in Supercritical Water

Methanol-assisted oxidation of organic compounds in supercritical water (SCW) is interest for wastewater treatment. To provide better predictive tools this process, it important to develop kinetic models. This paper investigated the kinetics methane and methane/methanol mixtures SCW. A detailed chemical model was established, drawing on analogy between chemistry SCW gas phase. The performance evaluated against experimental data from literature. Species measurements (SCWO) were reproduced satisfactorily by model. sensitivity analysis indicated that hydrogen abstraction HO2 CH3OO, minor importance phase, SCWO methane. Compared facilitated enhancing production OH radicals. Addition methanol promoted oxidation, especially at low temperature, reactive radicals but had little influence reaction pathways Both present AramcoMech 3.0 well predicted trends, underpredicted rate elevated partly due omission CH3OO with H2O mechanism.
